Shine As An Artist
Newtown artists let their light shine brightly.
Art has a high profile in our school here at Newtown. Our commitment allows children with a huge range of abilities and needs to connect creatively and emotionally, in turn supporting them to progress both personally and academically. At Newtown, we encourage and celebrate a love of Art, there are no boundaries. In line with the Church of England's role, we aim to contribute to the common good of the whole community. We are dedicated to expanding learning into the community to involve, include and fully appreciate the world around us. Our links with local shops, churches, families, schools, artists, celebrations and events is growing in strength.
Our pupils engage with Art through immersing them with relevant, fun and meaningful high-quality experiences across the whole of the curriculum. This full understanding enables them to become experts in their subject and allow them to creatively explore new ideas and bring the topic to life. Art is explored using a variety of media, where children can investigate new and alternative techniques and styles from a range of artists. Sketch books are incorporated in key stage two to record experiences and imagination so that pupils have space to develop ideas and demonstrate how their artistic ability has progressed.
Through our Art curriculum, we aim to enable the children to become:
Enthusiastic, curious and independent thinkers through being inspired by specialist artists that challenge and fire their imagination and thinking. Pupils are exposed to different perspectives through observation leading them to ask questions and make personal discoveries.
Motivated, reflective and resilient learners through the celebration of achievement at a variety of levels both in classrooms and across the whole school. We encourage pupils to develop confidence in their own abilities by self and peer assessing and listening to advice from others to achieve their goals.
Tolerant and responsible citizens through the understanding that everyone is unique and special. In art, pupils have access to cultural richness and diversity enabling them to appreciate and enjoy the arts that enrich lives in the world around us.
