In our English lessons, the children will be exploring The Midnight Fair, a beautifully illustrated wordless picture book by Gideon Sterer. When the fair closes for the night, the woodland animals sneak out of the forest to enjoy the rides, games and excitement all by themselves!

As the story contains no words, the children will use the illustrations to predict, infer, describe and create their own narrative, developing their vocabulary and storytelling skills along the way.

In Maths, we are excited to continue with the WhiteRoseMaths scheme starting with a focus on Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division and Fractions. 

The children will have weekly arithmetic tests on a Friday, and their progress will be recorded in their Home School Journals.

Wider curriculum

In history, the children will be travelling back in time to explore Tudor England. They will learn about the powerful monarchs Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, exploring what life was like during their reigns and how they used their power and influence. The children will investigate questions such as whether Henry VIII was a fair ruler or a tyrant, why he had six wives, and why Anne Boleyn was executed. They will also discover how Elizabeth I presented herself to the public through royal progresses and portraits. Using historical sources such as portraits, inventories and written evidence, the children will investigate what life was like for both wealthy and ordinary Tudor people. They will develop their skills as historians by asking questions, analysing evidence and making their own conclusions about the past.

In Science, the children will be exploring Earth and Space, learning about our Solar System and the fascinating objects within it. They will investigate the Sun, Moon and planets, including their size, position and movement, and explore how the Earth’s rotation causes day and night. The children will also learn about the Moon’s movement and phases and use models and practical activities to help explain how the Earth, Moon and Sun interact. Alongside developing their scientific knowledge, they will practise important Working Scientifically skills, including asking questions, making predictions, using evidence and explaining their ideas.

Our RE lessons will be based on the question ''Why doesn't Christianity always look the same?'. We will also enjoy our weekly Music lessons with Mr Kitcher each Wednesday. In PSHE, our topic will be 'Citizenship’.

In French, we will be looking at French footballers whilst in Art, the children the children will explore how art can be used to represent memories, experiences and personal identity.

Homework

Homework will be assigned on Tuesdays and due the following Monday. This will be both mathematics and spelling, punctuation and grammar. Where possible, homework will be closely aligned with topics being covered in class. Practice makes perfect, and these fantastic workbooks have just that. They have a huge range of questions covering all the skills needed to master both mathematics and SPAG.

We strongly recommend that your child continues to practice their times tables on Times Table Rockstars daily to improve their fluency and understanding.

Reading is fundamental for education. We encourage our pupils to read daily at home for at least 5 minutes. We believe that daily reading can greatly impact a child's academic achievements. Keeping a record of each reading session in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school daily will help your child track their progress.

Key Information for Autumn Term

Children should wear full uniform and black school shoes each day.
Our PE sessions will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children are required to come to school in their PE kit.
Children should bring a water bottle every day.
Children do not need to bring pencil cases or other personal items to school.
Please label all clothing and personal items to avoid the loss of property.
