Falcon Class - Year 5 & Year 6 2025 - 2026
Miss Egerton-Morris
Mrs Reece
Welcome back to Summer Term 2026. I am so excited to start this new term with you and your child and cannot wait for us to learn, explore, and grow together in our wonderful classroom.
In our English lessons, we will delve into the book King Kong by Anthony Browne. This beautifully illustrated story tells of a giant gorilla taken from his home and brought to a bustling city, where he forms an unexpected bond with a human. The book explores themes of loneliness, friendship, and how we treat animals, encouraging thoughtful discussion and inspiring creative writing.
In maths, we are excited to continue with the WhiteRoseMaths scheme. This term we will look further into fractions, decimals and percentages and also explore area, perimeter and volume.
The children will continue to have weekly arithmetic tests on a Friday, and their progress will be recorded in their Home School Journals.
Wider curriculum
Our exciting new history topic is Ancient Greece. In this topic, Falcon Class will learn about life in Ancient Greece and why it is still important today. They will explore Greek beliefs, daily life, key achievements, and the lasting impact Ancient Greece has had on the modern world.
In Science, children will learn about plant and animal life cycles. They will explore how living things grow, reproduce, and change over time, understanding the different stages in the life cycles of a variety of plants and animals.
Our RE lessons will be based on the question 'What happens to us when we die?'. We will also enjoy our weekly Music lessons with Mr Kitcher each Wednesday. In PSHE, our topic will be 'Health and Wellbeing’.
In French, we will be looking at the French-speaking world, exploring different countries and cultures where French is spoken. In DT, the children will be designing and creating monitoring devices, learning how these can be used to solve real-world problems.
Homework
Homework will be assigned on Tuesdays and due the following Monday. This will be both mathematics and spelling, punctuation and grammar CGP books. Where possible, homework will be closely aligned with topics being covered in class. Practice makes perfect, and these fantastic workbooks have just that. They have a huge range of questions covering all the skills needed to master both mathematics and SPAG.
We strongly recommend that your child continues to practice their times tables on Times Table Rockstars daily to improve their fluency and understanding.
Reading is fundamental for education. We encourage our pupils to read daily at home for at least 5 minutes. We believe that daily reading can greatly impact a child's academic achievements. Keeping a record of each reading session in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school daily will help your child track their progress.
We hope that these exciting topics and opportunities will inspire our children and continue to broaden their horizons.
