We are really looking forward to welcoming the children back into school and starting our Summer term, after a lovely Easte break. We have lots to look forward to this term and can’t wait to delve into lots of exciting learning!
In our Literacy lessons we are currently reading the text, 'The Bog Baby' by Jeanne Willis. When two small sisters go fishing to the magic pond, they find something much better than a frog or a newt. They find a bog baby. Small and blue with wings like a dragon, two girls decide to make him their secret.
This year, we are using White Rose Maths across our school to help develop the children's fluency and to deepen their conceptual understanding of mathematics. To help support this, we hold weekly arithmetic tests each Friday. The outcomes of these will be recorded in your child's Home School Journals to help keep you informed of their progress.
In our wider curriculum subjects, we delve into many magical themes. During our History lessons, we will investigate flight through the ages with the intention to answer our key question: ‘How did we learn to fly’. In Geography, we will describe, map out and explore ‘What can you see at the coast’. In Science, we will begin to learn the parts and names of different plants.
In Design and Technology, we will be identifying, cutting and tasting different fruits with the goal of creating our own smoothie! In Art, we will explore how to mix and use paint to show life in colour. In our RE lessons we will investigate what different religions believe as we navigate the enquiry question of ‘How do we know some people feel a special connection to God?’. During our Computing sessions, we will be developing our knowledge of algorithms and debugging through the use of Scratch. Music is delivered each Wednesday afternoon by Mr Kitcher from Shropshire Music Service. Physical Education will be delivered twice weekly with Mr Tinsley.
Now for some reminders:
Book Bags:
Please ensure that your child brings their book bag to school every day, containing their home-school journal and reading book. It is crucial that these items are kept separate from other bags, such as lunch boxes or PE kits, to prevent any damage to the books.
Homework:
Homework packs will be given out on Fridays, along with new spellings. We kindly request that completed homework is returned by the following Friday. Spellings will be tested every Friday. To keep homework organised, please use the plastic wallet provided rather than storing it in other bags.
Reading:
Reading is fundamental to education, and we encourage pupils to read at home for at least five minutes every day. Reading every day can have a significant impact on your child's academic achievement. Keeping a record of each reading session in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school every day will help your child keep track of their progress. Phonics books will be changed every week on Friday. Other reading books will also be chnaged on Friday when the Accelerated Reader Quiz has been completed.
PE:
PE lessons will take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Children are required to come to school wearing their full PE kit. Please note that swimming lessons will take place on Friday afternoons after October half-term until the end of our Autumn Term. During this period, swimming will take the place of our Friday PE slot.
Forest School:
Forest School will be held once every 3 weeks, please look out for dojo updates as to when this will take place and further information.
Please have a look at our Curriculum Page on the website for further information on what will be taught.
