Shine As A Geographer

Newtown Geographers let their light shine brightly.

We aim to inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives and so that they can take an active part in contributing to and protecting this world as they grow up. Through their growing knowledge and understanding of geography, they will learn about places, people and the environment. By exploring their own locality and through studying others, they will learn to draw and interpret maps and deepen their geographical skills through enquiry learning.

Through our Geography curriculum, we aim to enable the children to become:

Enthusiastic, curious and independent thinkers through developing and feeding their curiosity about the world, the places in the UK and abroad; about the people and communities that make up our world.

Motivated, reflective and resilient learners through developing their ability to read and interpret maps and geographical information showing different representations and considering ways in which they can impact their world for the better, for example through resource usage.

Tolerant and responsible citizens through developing their appreciation of how they can impact their world, engaging in activities with people and organisations working to make a difference in the world, learning in more depth about localities other than our own, learning about economic activity, trade links and the use of resources.
