Falcon Class - Year 5 & 6 2025 - 2026

Miss Egerton-Morris

Mrs Reece

Welcome back to Spring Term 2026. I am so excited to start this new term with you and your child and cannot wait for us to learn, explore, and grow together in our wonderful classroom.

English

In our English lessons, we will delve into the book 'The Promise' by Nicola Davies. This picture book is of great beauty and hope about the power we have to transform our world. On a mean street in a mean city, a thief tries to snatch an old woman’s bag. But she finds she can’t have it...

In maths, we are excited to continue with the WhiteRoseMaths scheme. This term we will look further into fractions, decimals and percentages and also explore area, perimeter and volume.

The children will continue to have weekly arithmetic tests on a Friday, and their progress will be recorded in their Home School Journals.

Wider curriculum

Our exciting new geography topic is “Where does our energy come from?” In this topic, Falcon Class will learn where our energy comes from and why it matters. They will  explore renewable and non-renewable energy sources, how energy is produced and used, and the impact energy choices have on the environment. The topic helps children understand sustainability and the importance of making responsible choices for the future.

In Science, children will learn about human growth and reproduction in an age-appropriate and scientific way. They explore how humans change from birth to old age, the stages of the human life cycle, and the basic processes involved in reproduction. Pupils also learn about physical and emotional changes during puberty, helping them to understand how bodies grow and develop while promoting respect, wellbeing and healthy relationships.

Our RE lessons, will be based on the question 'What happens to us when we die?'. We will also enjoy our weekly Music lessons with Mr Kitcher each Wednesday. In PSHE, our topic will be 'Health and Wellbeing’.

In French, we will be looking at clothes. In Art and Design, the children will develop their understanding of using art to convey important messages. Finally, in computing the children will explore computer systems and networks.

Homework

Homework will be assigned on Tuesdays and due the following Monday. This will be both mathematics and spelling, punctuation and grammar CGP books. Where possible, homework will be closely aligned with topics being covered in class. Practice makes perfect, and these fantastic workbooks have just that. They have a huge range of questions covering all the skills needed to master both mathematics and SPAG.

We strongly recommend that your child continues to practice their times tables on Times Table Rockstars daily to improve their fluency and understanding.

Reading is fundamental for education. We encourage our pupils to read daily at home for at least 5 minutes. We believe that daily reading can greatly impact a child's academic achievements. Keeping a record of each reading session in the Home School Journal and bringing it to school daily will help your child track their progress.

We hope that these exciting topics and opportunities will inspire our children and continue to broaden their horizons.
