Shine As A Writer

Newtown Writers let their light shine brightly.

At Newtown Church of England Primary School, we believe that all pupils should be able to confidently communicate their knowledge, ideas and emotions through their writing. We want pupils to develop a wide vocabulary as well as an interest in and a love of words. We want pupils to secure a strong understanding of grammar and to be able to spell new words by effectively applying the spelling patterns and rules they learn throughout their time at Welshampton. We want them to write clearly, accurately and coherently and be able to adapt their language and style for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.

Writing is taught using the Literacy Counts Program. This rich text-based approach provided children with the necessary skills needed to become confident and independent writers whilst also instilling a passion for writing.
