PE & Sports Premium

What is the Sports Premium?

The government continues to provide funding to enable schools to improve the quality of Sport and P.E. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of the funding

Schools will spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this. Examples include additional sport clubs, equipment to support P.E and hiring specialist P.E teachers/qualified sport coaches.

At Newtown C of E Primary School we recognise the contribution of P.E to the health and well-being of all children. In addition, we strongly believe that providing an exciting and varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities has a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children.

We work with the Primary School Games co-ordinators based as well as private providers of high quality sports and P.E lessons, such as private Sports Coaches and swimming teachers. Teachers and support staff in school are given the opportunity to work alongside the coaches (also during after-school clubs) to increase their skills and transfer them into their teaching of P.E and sport.

This provision is constantly under review and is monitored by the Headteacher, PE co-ordinator and Governors as part of our routine school monitoring processes.
